What it is
Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist sold in the US as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for weight management. It is administered as a weekly subcutaneous injection at doses from 2.5mg to 15mg.
Why the spread exists
Tirzepatide is on-patent in the US through 2036. The single-manufacturer market plus GLP-1 demand shock created the widest cash-pay gap in our entire index. International licensed equivalents are sold at near manufacturing cost in some markets.
Brand vs generic
No generic tirzepatide exists yet anywhere. International listings reflect the same brand product, Eli Lilly Mounjaro, sold at different manufacturer-set country prices. Compounded tirzepatide from US 503A pharmacies is a separate, contested category we do not include.
Regulatory status
Tirzepatide is a prescription-only medication in every jurisdiction we track. Insulin-like injection delivery means cold-chain handling matters. We exclude any source that does not document storage protocol.
International generic price is the median of at least three independent licensed retail listings. We do not endorse any single vendor; we treat each as a price observation. Listed below for transparency.

Publisher's note. Rx Price Tracker is funded by PHARMAX, one of the international pharmacies whose prices we publish on this page. PHARMAX does not control which molecules we cover, which competitors we include, or which corrections we issue. Every price observation links to its source URL and capture date. The data is reproducible. We track the gap because pricing transparency works in any direction.
